How to choose the right one
-
Check key action type
All three Kawai CN201 models feature graded actions. This means the lower keys are heavier than the higher ones. This design mimics the mechanical resistance of an acoustic piano. You should prioritize this feature if you are learning proper technique. It helps build finger strength and control. If you only play simple melodies, the action may feel too heavy. For serious practice, the graded response is essential for realistic feel and dynamic control during your sessions.
-
Compare physical dimensions
Measure your available space carefully before purchasing. The Satin Black and White versions measure 58 inches in length. The Rosewood model is slightly shorter at 57.9 inches. The width varies slightly, ranging from 21.5 to 22 inches. Height also differs, with the Rosewood model being the tallest at 20.1 inches. Ensure your stand or furniture can support these specific dimensions. Proper clearance is needed for comfortable playing and airflow around the instrument.
-
Verify Bluetooth connectivity
Connectivity is a key differentiator for home practice. The Satin White and Rosewood models include Bluetooth support. This allows you to wirelessly connect to mobile devices. You can play along with backing tracks or learning apps without cables. The Satin Black model is described as having wireless connectivity, but check the specific listing for Bluetooth audio or MIDI details. If you rely on digital tools, ensure the model you choose supports your preferred connection type for seamless integration.
-
Select your preferred color
Aesthetic choice matters for home furniture coordination. You can choose between Premium Satin Black, Premium Satin White, or Premium Rosewood. The Black and White options offer a clean, modern look. The Rosewood finish provides a warmer, traditional appearance. Each color option maintains the same core specifications and key action. Your decision should depend on how the piano fits into your room decor. The finish does not affect the sound quality or playing experience, only the visual appeal.
-
Assess your skill level
The CN201 series suits beginners and intermediate players. It offers essential features without excessive complexity. If you need extensive tone libraries, this model may lack variety. It focuses on key feel and simple setup. Beginners will appreciate the straightforward interface and graded keys. Intermediates can use the Bluetooth features for practice routines. Advanced players might find the sound engine limited. Consider your long-term goals. If you plan to advance significantly, you may need more features later.
