How to choose the right Nord Black
-
Check key count needs
Decide between 88 keys for full piano range or 73 keys for portability. The Nord Stage 4 88-Key model provides the complete traditional layout for serious keyboardists. It measures 59.8 inches long and weighs 53 pounds. If you prioritize mobility, the 73-Key Fully-Weighted Piano is shorter at 51.2 inches. It weighs only 37 pounds, making it easier to transport. Choose the 88-key version if you need every octave. Select the 73-key model if you play on stage frequently and need a lighter package.
-
Evaluate touch response
Key action defines how the keys feel under your fingers. The 88-Key and 73-Key models both feature fully weighted action. This mimics the resistance of an acoustic piano. The Compact 73-Key model uses semi-weighted keys instead. This touch is lighter and better for synth playing. It suits gigging musicians who need quick response. If you want a traditional piano feel, choose a fully weighted model. If you prefer a lighter touch for electronic music, the semi-weighted option is suitable.
-
Consider portability weight
Weight affects how easily you can move the instrument. The 88-Key model is the heaviest at 53 pounds. Its dimensions are 10.2 inches wide and 19.7 inches high. The 73-Key Fully-Weighted Piano weighs 37 pounds. It is also 10.2 inches wide and 19.7 inches high. The Compact 73-Key model is the lightest at 28.6 pounds. It is wider at 15 inches but shorter at 7.9 inches. Heavier models offer stability. Lighter models are easier to carry to gigs.
-
Assess physical footprint
Measure your space before buying. The 88-Key model is 59.8 inches long. It requires significant desk or stand space. The 73-Key Fully-Weighted Piano is 51.2 inches long. It saves about eight inches of length. The Compact 73-Key model is only 46.1 inches long. It is the most space-efficient option. However, it is wider at 15 inches. Check your table or stand depth. Ensure the unit fits comfortably without overcrowding your setup.
-
Match to playing style
Your primary use case determines the best fit. Serious players needing a full piano feel should choose the 88-Key model. It is the best overall choice for extensive sound engines. Musicians prioritizing mobility should pick the 73-Key Fully-Weighted Piano. It balances portability with authentic touch. Gigging musicians who play synth parts may prefer the Compact 73-Key. Its semi-weighted action and compact size suit stage performance. Align your choice with whether you need range, weight, or compactness.
