How the alternatives compare to the Nord
Artesia A-73 Portable Semi-Weighted Keyboard
The Artesia A-73 shares the 73-key layout but uses a semi-weighted action instead of the Nord’s fully weighted keys. This makes it lighter and easier to carry for beginners who do not need heavy resistance. It lacks the professional sound engine and stage-ready build of the Nord Stage 4. You should choose this if you want a portable starter kit with basic features rather than a high-end instrument. The Artesia prioritizes affordability and ease of use over the tactile feedback and premium construction found in the Nord.
Nord Stage 4 Compact 73-Key Keyboard
The Nord Stage 4 Compact keeps the 73-key count but switches to a semi-weighted action. It is significantly lighter at 28.6 pounds compared to the 37 pounds of the fully weighted model. This makes it easier to transport for gigging musicians who prioritize portability over key resistance. It retains the Nord sound engine but sacrifices the authentic piano feel. Choose this if you need a lighter stage piano with semi-weighted keys. It offers the same brand quality in a more compact form factor suitable for players who do not require full weighted action.
Yamaha P71 88-Key Weighted Digital Piano
The Yamaha P71 offers 88 fully weighted keys instead of the Nord’s 73. It provides a full piano range for players who need more notes for classical or jazz repertoire. It is lighter at 25 pounds and has a slimmer profile. However, it lacks the specialized stage features and premium build of the Nord. This option suits beginners who want basic weighted keys without the complexity or cost of a professional stage piano. It is a straightforward instrument focused on essential playability rather than advanced stage functionality.
Yamaha 88-Key Weighted Portable Digital Piano
The Yamaha P45 also provides 88 fully weighted keys, expanding the range beyond the Nord’s 73. It includes built-in speakers, which the Nord Stage 4 does not list as a standard feature. It weighs 25.4 pounds, making it lighter than the Nord. This model is designed for beginners seeking a simple, portable keyboard with essential features. It lacks the professional sound engine and stage design of the Nord. Pick this if you want a full-size weighted piano with built-in audio for home practice rather than a specialized stage instrument.
Zilvok 88-Key Semi-Weighted Digital Piano
The Zilvok 88-Key Semi-Weighted Piano offers a full 88-key range with a semi-weighted action. It includes Bluetooth connectivity, a feature not mentioned for the Nord Stage 4. This model is aimed at beginners who want a complete package with modern connectivity. It lacks the heavy resistance of fully weighted keys found in the Nord. It is suitable for players who prioritize Bluetooth integration and a full key range over professional stage piano features. Choose this for a beginner-friendly setup with semi-weighted keys and wireless capabilities.
Donner 88-Key Upright Digital Piano
The Donner DDP-400 is an upright digital piano with 88 fully weighted keys. It is much heavier at 108 pounds, making it a stationary instrument rather than a portable stage piano. It offers a traditional aesthetic and full key resistance. This model is ideal for home practice where portability is not a concern. It lacks the compact design and stage-focused features of the Nord. Select this if you want a permanent, acoustic-style setup with full weighted keys. It suits players who prioritize key weight and furniture-style design over mobility and stage functionality.
