How to choose the right portable piano
-
Check key weight carefully
All listed Korg Liano models use semi-weighted actions. This design offers a lighter feel than traditional acoustic pianos. You should consider this if you prioritize easy transport over heavy resistance. Beginners and travelers often find this balance sufficient for practice. However, advanced players seeking realistic touch may find these keys too light. Verify that the action matches your current skill level before purchasing. This spec directly impacts your playing comfort and technique development over time.
-
Verify the number of keys
Every model in this guide includes 88 keys. This full-size layout is essential for playing standard repertoire and learning proper finger positioning. You do not need to worry about compact 61-key limitations here. The 88-key count ensures compatibility with most sheet music and educational materials. It provides a complete range for both hands. This specification is standard for serious portable pianos and supports long-term growth for students.
-
Assess physical dimensions and weight
Portability depends on size and mass. Most models weigh 13.7 pounds and measure 56 inches long. The Korg Liano in silver is slightly shorter at 50.5 inches. You should measure your vehicle trunk or storage space against these numbers. The height varies, with some models under three inches when closed. Lighter weight makes carrying easier for frequent travel. Compare these exact measurements to ensure the instrument fits your lifestyle and transport needs.
-
Confirm included pedal type
Each piano comes with a sustain pedal. This accessory is crucial for proper phrasing and dynamics. You should check if the pedal is included in the box or sold separately. All listed Korg models provide this basic control. It allows you to hold notes and create musical connections. Without it, your playing may sound disconnected. Ensure the pedal type matches your playing style. This simple addition significantly enhances your practice experience and musical expression.
-
Consider built-in speaker quality
All models feature built-in speakers. This feature allows you to play immediately without external amplification. You benefit from this convenience during travel or in small spaces. It simplifies setup since you do not need extra gear. The sound quality is designed for practice rather than performance. This spec makes the piano self-contained and ready to use. It is ideal for beginners who want a complete, hassle-free instrument right out of the box.
