6 Best Alternatives to the Roland FP-90X White Digital Piano (2026)

How each alternative compares

Yamaha P225 Portable White Digital Piano

The Yamaha P225 is significantly lighter at 25.4 pounds compared to the FP-90X’s 52 pounds, making it much easier to transport. It features weighted keys rather than the hybrid wood-and-molded construction of the Roland, offering a different tactile response. While the Roland includes a four-speaker system for rich projection, the P225 relies on its built-in speakers in a more compact chassis. You should choose the Yamaha if portability is your primary concern and you prefer a standard weighted feel over the specialized hybrid action. It sacrifices the premium sound engine and extensive connectivity options found in the Roland for a simpler, more mobile package.

Zilvok 88-Key Semi-Weighted Digital Piano

The Zilvok offers semi-weighted keys, which provide less resistance than the heavy, hybrid action of the Roland FP-90X. This makes it a budget-friendly entry point for beginners who do not yet require the nuanced touch control of a premium instrument. Unlike the Roland’s sophisticated Piano Designer sound engine, the Zilvok focuses on basic functionality with USB-MIDI connectivity. It lacks the four-speaker system and advanced Bluetooth audio features, relying instead on external speakers or headphones. If you are just starting out and want a complete kit without the weight or cost of a high-end model, this alternative provides the essential 88 keys in a lighter, more affordable form factor.

Donner DEP-20 Lite 88-Key Portable

The Donner DEP-20 Lite emphasizes wireless connectivity, a feature the Roland FP-90X also supports but integrates differently. Weighing 29.8 pounds, it is lighter than the Roland but heavier than some competitors. It features weighted keys, though they are semi-weighted in nature, differing from the authentic wood-key hybrid action of the FP-90X. The Donner includes a stand in its package, whereas the Roland is often sold as a standalone unit requiring separate accessories. You might prefer this option if you need a portable setup with included furniture and strong wireless capabilities, accepting a trade-off in key feel and sound depth for convenience and included accessories.

Yamaha DGX-670 88-Key Arranger Digital Piano

The Yamaha DGX-670 is a furniture-style arranger piano, weighing 67.7 pounds, which makes it far less portable than the lightweight Roland FP-90X. It offers extensive sound variety and auto-accompaniment features, going beyond the piano-focused sound engine of the Roland. While both have weighted keys, the DGX-670 is designed for a stable home setup rather than moving between locations. It provides a comprehensive home instrument experience with a larger footprint. Choose this alternative if you prioritize sound variety and a permanent, stable setup over the compact size and premium hybrid key action of the Roland FP-90X.

Best Choice Products 88-Key Semi-Weighted Digital Piano

The Best Choice Products model is a semi-weighted keyboard weighing only 20.7 pounds, making it the lightest option on this list. It comes with a stand and pedal, offering a complete starter package that the Roland does not include by default. The key action is significantly lighter than the Roland’s PHA-50 hybrid keyboard, providing less resistance and nuance. It lacks the advanced sound engine and four-speaker system of the Roland, focusing instead on basic functionality. This alternative is suitable for beginners who want a portable, all-in-one solution and do not need the professional touch and sound projection of a high-end digital piano.

ZHRUNS 88-Key Portable Digital Piano

The ZHRUNS RS25 is a portable, semi-weighted digital piano weighing approximately 20.7 pounds, significantly lighter than the 52-pound Roland FP-90X. It targets beginners with a focus on portability and basic connectivity. Unlike the Roland’s hybrid wood-key action, the ZHRUNS offers a lighter weighted feel that is easier to manage for new players. It does not include the four-speaker system or advanced Bluetooth audio features of the Roland. This option is ideal if you need a budget-friendly, easy-to-move instrument for practice, accepting a simpler key mechanism and sound profile in exchange for lower weight and cost.
